Dion Waiters’ 2019-20 season with the Miami Heat keeps hitting bumps.
The Miami Heat suspended Waiters for 10 games without pay for conduct detrimental to the team, according to the Miami Herald’s Anthony Chiang. The suspension began with Miami’s Friday night loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

A statement from the team read that “we are very disappointed in Dion’s actions this season that include the very scary situation Thursday night, and grateful that the outcome wasn’t worse.” ESPN reported that Waiters suffered a panic attack on the Heat team plane from Phoenix to Los Angeles Thursday night after consuming a THC-infused edible.
Shams Charania of The Athletic said that Heat officials believe that a teammate gave Waiters the edible.
The Heat believe Waiters was given the “gummy” by a teammate, but Waiters has been reluctant and has decided not to say who provided it, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium. Waiters has had a tumultuous series of events with Miami this season.

Waiters was also suspended for Miami’s season opener, also for conduct detrimental to the team. After that suspension announcement, Waiters took shots at Tyler Herro and Erik Spoelstra on Instagram.
This suspension means that Waiters will not gain the $1.2 million bonus in his contract if he plays in 70 games this season. The Heat will not get $1.2 million in salary cap relief, though.
Despite Dion Waiters not eligible for his games played bonus, Miami will not receive $1.2M in relief in relation to the hard cap. Bonuses are not calculated until after the season even if the criteria is not met during the season.
