The Miami Heat broke a tie-breaker with the Sacramento Kings and the Charlotte Hornets and are slotted in as the 13th seed for the upcoming 2019 NBA Draft.
As one of those three teams fighting for the playoffs instead of tanking, the Miami are rewarded for their efforts with an equal 4.7% chance at landing one of the top three picks in the draft. Broken down for each top pick, all three teams have a 1% chance at the first pick, 1.1% chance of the No. 2 pick, 1.2% chance of No. 3 and 1.4% chance of No. 4.
Miami Heat’s 2019 NBA draft lottery odds:
— Albert Nahmad (@AlbertNahmad) April 12, 2019
- 1st: 1.0%
- 2nd: 1.1%
- 3rd: 1.2%
- 4th: 1.4%
- 13th: 90.6%
- 14th: 4.7%
The lottery will be held on May 14 (in Chicago).
If the draft lottery ultimately does not feature any of the lottery teams moving up in the draft order, the Hornets will select 12th, the Heat 13th and the Kings 14th. Miami can only move down one more spot should the Kings move into the top 4 in the draft lottery.
The Heat do not have a second round pick in this year’s draft, as the pick was originally sent to the Hornets in the Shabazz Napier trade on June 26, 2014.
