The award honors a player for “combining excellence on the court with cooperation with media and fans.”

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel’s Ira Winderman reported Thursday that Dwyane Wade is a finalist for the Magic Johnson award, which “recognizes the player who best combines excellence on the court with cooperation with media and fans.”

Bradley Beal, Rudy Gobert, Draymond Green and Nikola Vucevic are the other finalists.

Wade branded the 2018-19 year as his “One Last Dance” for his final NBA season. In opposing NBA arenas, Wade stayed well past the final buzzer to sign autographs for fans.

Wade’s acts to take time for fans and his overall positive reputation among media members — in an article to commemorate Wade’s career, Dan LeBatard said, “...try to find a journalist who has a bad word to say about him” — may have him win this award.
