Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported yesterday that, “An associate of [Goran] Dragic said he would be very surprised” if the Miami Heat point guard opts out of the final year of his contract.

According to Jackson, the associate of Goran Dragic said that the Slovenian product very much likes playing for the Heat. The one question would be whether “an incredible different situation should present itself,” Jackson said.
Although the NBA bars contact between teams and impending free agents, it’s common for people to talk through back channels. And with the 33-year-old Dragic coming off an injury-riddled season, I can’t imagine he would find a team willing to give him the $19.2 million he’s owed for the 2019-20 season on his current contract — as I’ve said before.
The Dallas Mavericks may be interested in signing Dragic to be a veteran presence on a team with fellow Slovenian Luka Doncic positioned as the next face of the franchise. But Dallas can just wait a year.
