As expected Hassan Whiteside has opted into his $27.1 million dollar player option for the 2019-2020 season. Whiteside’s playing time has dipped consistently over the last two seasons, with Bam Adebayo beginning to take a bigger role. It’s clear Hassan feels about this, with him having been vocal to the media in the past about his frustrations. However, it is worth noting that Hassan was diplomatic regarding the issue last season.

It was recently rumoured that Whiteside intended to opt-in and ask for a trade, but Pat Riley confirmed this wasn’t the case on Monday as reported by The Miami Herald. Currently, Hassan is Miami’s highest paid player. It’s unclear what his role will be moving forward, especially on an expiring contract. For now, you can expect Hassan at training camp.
Last season Hassan averaged 12.3 points, and 11.4 rebounds in 23.3 minutes per game.
