Will the move mean Udonis Haslem will play for one more season?

The Miami Heat’s official Twitter account announced Monday that the team had waived forward Yante Maten.

As I’ve discussed before, Maten would have $150,000 of his $1.4 million salary for the 2019-20 season guaranteed if he was still on the team Aug. 1. The Heat decided to cut him from the team just before that guarantee date.i

According to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, the Heat are a little more than $2 million below the $138.9 million hard cap they are operating under. Miami would be able to sign Udonis Haslem with this flexibility — should the three-time NBA champion choose to play for another season.

Chiang also reported that Kendrick Nunn, who is also on a partially guaranteed contract with the Heat, is expected to stay on the roster. Like Maten, Nunn also faces a $150,000 guarantee deadline of Aug. 1.
