The Miami Heat (34-17) have not lost three games in a row this entire season. After a tough loss in Sacramento on Friday night, Miami will look to snap the two-game skid against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday.
The MRI results on Jimmy Butler’s right shoulder returned clean yesterday, but Coach Erik Spoelstra did mention that there is “no guarantee [Jimmy] plays on this trip”. With Sunday night’s game in Portland just their third game of a 5-game road trip, it would be shocking to see Jimmy suit up for this game. However, there is a chance that Miami’s trade deadline acquisitions in Andre Iguodala, Jae Crowder, and Solomon Hill are able to make their Heat debuts.
A key storyline to follow will be the matchup between Bam Adebayo and Hassan Whiteside. This will be the second time that Whiteside has faced off against the Heat since the 4-team trade that sent him to Portland and brought in Jimmy Butler and Meyers Leonard in July. This combined with the fact that Damian Lillard is still rightfully heated (no pun intended) over their loss in Utah on Friday night will certainly add some added motivation for this matchup. The first time Miami played Portland this season, the Heat came away with a 122-111 win.
The Heat will look to replicate these results on Sunday night before a back-to-back road game in San Francisco on Monday night.
